Kings Point Rowing Spring Break Report

Varsity Rowing has returned from spring training in Jacksonville and is ready to start racing. “It was a great week of training for the team. We did three workouts a day and the team made tremendous strides in preparing for the race season” Coach Derek Hartwick commented.
Most college teams head south for better rowing weather during the early weeks of the season since the conditions in the northeast are not ideal for rowing. The Kings Point rowers were kept busy with two rows a day and an additional gym workout of lifting weights combined with aerobic conditioning. While in Jacksonville, the team did some wet training at the damage control trainer on the Mayport Naval Base. They all got wet but everyone survived the training unscathed and better prepared to handle adverse conditions while at sea.
The team received plenty of support from the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter and the local parents of Midshipman and the Florida Parents Association. The team was treated to lunches and dinners and a movie and bowling night. “We were treated very well. We feel right at home in Jacksonville. We are especially excited because we have our new assistant coach on board to help the team. Daniel Udeanu is a former Romanian Nation Team member and has plenty of international rowing experience to contribute to the team.” said Coach Hartwick.

The team kicks off the season at the Murphy Cup Regatta in Philadelphia on March 29.
The races continue through mid-May when the team will compete in the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta.
