TV Kings Pointer to head to San Francisco as flagship for the America’s Cup Super Yacht Program

TV Kings Pointer to head to San Francisco as flagship for the America’s Cup Super Yacht Program

The new training ship is expected to make a big splash amongst the world’s most amazing super yachts.  With her new KP blue topsides and sparkling white house she will certainly turn heads.  While the other mega sailing yachts will be racing in their own regatta, Kings Pointer will arrive with her own, bringing a fleet of 420’s, Sonar’s, and a Melges 32 on deck.  After unloading her sailing cargo the ship will head out each day to serve as the committee boat for the America’s Cup Racing.  Peter Reggio, principal race officer for the America’s cup, had these comments about the new ship- “This will be great for setting a start line!  Instead of yelling at the committee boat crew and pin boat to set a perfect line I can just set the Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning System to AutoSquare mode and I know that the start line will always be perfect.”  And Jimmy Spithill, captain of Team Oracle was excited about another aspect of the ship- “ With 2900 horsepower and a big towing winch, anytime one of those pesky cargo ships tries to transit the race course we can just tow them out of the way!”  Official voyage sponsor American President Line’s threatened to withdraw sponsorship based on Spithill’s comments, but a solution should be in place in time for the ships arrival in San Francisco.  Kings Pointer is scheduled for an April 1st departure from Jacksonville, FL with a crew of eager cadets.
